Interview with Russian Yoga Digest
What is unique about Kali Ray TriYoga?
This is for each person who practices to feel for themselves. TriYoga is founded through kriyavati siddhi. This is not only unique but rare. TriYoga is a complete yoga method. Under the umbrella of TriYoga the various branches of yoga sadhana are included. It includes systematized asana (posture), pranayama (breathing practices), and dharana (concentration techniques) from Basics to Level 7, and over 1000+ hasta mudras (hand gestures). With this preparation and support, along with the various expressions of nada yoga, meditation emerges.
The levels in TriYoga correspond to the chakras. What gives the inspiration for each level?
Each level emerged through kriyavati siddhi. Asana, pranayama, mudra, and dharana are experienced through kriya. The sequences organize themselves through the wisdom of prana. The levels correspond to the chakras as they naturally build upon each other, just as the chakras represent progressively subtle levels of consciousness.
How do you see the difference between men and women in yoga?
In essence, there is no difference. Both men and women have the same soul nature – sat cit ananda. Both have the capacity for complete realization. In practice, there may be differences in physical flexibility or strength, but these are individual differences, not gender differences. TriYoga is designed to be accessible to all practitioners regardless of gender, age, or physical condition.
Is it possible to do yoga without aiming at any enlightenment – just for health?
Absolutely. People come to yoga for many reasons – health, flexibility, stress relief, or spiritual growth. All are valid. The beauty of yoga is that it meets you where you are. If you practice for health, you will receive health benefits. If you go deeper, deeper benefits await. There is no requirement to seek enlightenment. Yoga serves all purposes, and often those who start for physical reasons find themselves naturally drawn to explore more.
What is the role of yoga in awakening the kundalini energy?
Kundalini is the dormant spiritual energy at the base of the spine. Through the practices of yoga – asana, pranayama, mudra, and meditation – this energy can be awakened and directed upward through the chakras. TriYoga is particularly effective for this because it was founded through kundalini awakening. The flows naturally prepare the body and energy channels for the safe and natural awakening of kundalini.
How can one maintain a state of peace in the modern world?
Through regular practice. When we meditate daily, we create a reservoir of peace that we can draw upon throughout the day. The challenges of modern life don't disappear, but our response to them changes. We learn to remain centered in the midst of chaos. We find that peace is not dependent on external circumstances but is our natural state when we connect with our deeper self.
What is the concept of being an observer during meditation?
The observer, or witness, is the aspect of consciousness that watches all experience without being affected by it. In meditation, we learn to identify with this witness rather than with our thoughts and emotions. This shift from participant to observer is transformative. We realize that we are not our thoughts, not our feelings, not our body. We are the awareness in which all these phenomena arise and pass away.
Can meditative states be integrated into daily life?
This is essential. Meditation is not meant to be separate from life but to infuse all of life. With practice, the clarity and peace we experience in formal meditation begin to permeate our daily activities. Walking becomes meditation, eating becomes meditation, working becomes meditation. Eventually, there is no separation between practice and life – all of life becomes yoga.
What is the future of yoga?
Yoga has spread across the globe and continues to grow. This is wonderful. As more people practice, the collective consciousness shifts. The future of yoga is bright because the need for yoga has never been greater. In our increasingly complex world, people are seeking the simplicity and peace that yoga offers. I believe yoga will continue to evolve while maintaining its essential teachings of union and self-realization.
