Yogini Kaliji traveled to Yogaville over the weekend August 28–30 for a Friday evening through Sunday morning program. Set among the Appalachian foothills in Eastern Virginia, Yogaville is a peaceful and sweet venue surrounded by beautiful nature. Its location draws TriYoga family and students from the surrounding states, including from TriYoga communities in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, and also local students from Yogaville who are new to TriYoga. It has been two years since Kaliji’s visit, and for many the retreat had the feel of a TriYoga reunion, while many of those new to the practice expressed that they were falling in love with TriYoga:
“This lifted my spirits—I will be back.”
“I loved every minute—it exceeded my expectations.”
“This was an experience straight from heaven!”
Students enjoyed 11 hours of class with Yogini Kaliji, including the Yogaflow trinity of asana, pranayama, and mudra; morning Prana Vidya sessions; and Jnana Flow. Surya sang and played guitar during the closing session’s Yoga Nidra, and the retreat coincided with the full moon.
Yogaville has their community satsang on Saturday night, lovingly referred to as “Saturday Night Live”, and they invite all of the visiting programs to attend as well. Yogini Kaliji was invited to host a Q&A session and to deliver a short talk. The event was broadcast live by Yogaville via Livestream to participants worldwide. For assistants John and Santoshi, it was a special family reunion in different ways. John and Santoshi’s first yoga teacher was TriYoga teacher Gabrielle Gerard at Inside Out Yoga in Norfolk, Virginia. They studied with Gabrielle for two years before moving away from Norfolk and meeting Yogini Kaliji. Gabrielle has continued to inspire and train students and teachers in the Tidewater area, bringing six members of the Norfolk TriYoga community with her to Yogaville. Santoshi’s mother Pat, who also studies TriYoga with Gabrielle, attended the programs as well. Pat has attended TriYoga workshops with Kaliji before, but this was Pat’s first retreat and also her first time at an event with Santoshi and John assisting.
