Kaliji celebrated TriYoga 38 from January 5–7 at UYoga College in Shenzhen, China with a weekend of TriYoga and Chant Club enjoyed by over 150 attendees.
For the opening night program on Friday, January 5—TriYoga’s 38th (sun) anniversary—Kaliji arrived to a red-carpet welcome and a large and excited greeting party. Near the entrance was a signature board for attendees and a photo gallery with images of Kaliji and TriYoga from China and around the world. After signing the board and having photos taken, Kaliji was escorted to the main hall which had every mat occupied and a standing-room gallery of observers.
The celebration program began as Kaliji was honored on stage with a garland, followed by an awards ceremony. Grace and Victor were recognized for their roles in the early development of TriYoga in China, and awards were also given to representatives from Chinese TriYoga Centers. Kaliji released the new TY38 anniversary T-shirt, and a group of teachers and students took the stage for a flow demonstration.
The main events of the celebration were Kaliji’s TriYoga class and Chant Club’s performance. Kaliji effortlessly guided participants through a beautiful all-levels flow, and Chant Club rocked the house with Kaliji on vocals and harmonium, Berni on guitar and, Dini on cajón.
The Saturday and Sunday schedule featured twice daily TriYoga sessions with Kaliji and evenings with Chant Club. Each morning started with a TriYoga Therapeutics Chair class taught by TriYoga teacher Jasmin from the USA.

Chant Club was a great success in Shenzhen! Kaliji, Berni and Dini have a unique and rocking sound that brought the audience to their feet.
Victor has played an important role in introducing TriYoga to Asia: it was Victor’s invitation that brought Kaliji to the Singapore Yoga Conference in 2001. This initial visit and the connections Kaliji made in Asia laid the groundwork for Kaliji’s first visits to China in 2006 and 2007 and the start of the China teacher training program. Victor also arranged the first China teaching tour for Rishi and Santoshi in 2008.
Grace is the founder and director of the UYoga chain of studios in Shenzhen and the UYoga Academy. Her studio “UYoga College” in the north of Shenzhen hosted all programs for Kaliji’s visit. Grace and UYoga organized the first complete TriYoga teacher training program in China in 2008, from Basics to Level 3. UYoga continues to host regular teacher training programs and workshops, as well as regular classes and private lessons at their studios across Shenzhen.
Since the beginning of the comprehensive teacher training program in China in 2008, Rishi and Santoshi have each spent over two years in China teaching TriYoga.
Kiki was the first Chinese member of the TriYoga teacher training staff, and provided Chinese interpretation for all of Kaliji’s programs in Shenzhen.
TY teacher trainers Xin Mei and Sisi were instrumental team members for Kaliji’s visit.
