Sep. 2, 2006: Nancy Deckard, a Basics intern from Ocean City, NJ, volunteers teaching TriYoga at a Gilda’s Club in New Jersey. She says:
Gilda’s Club is patterned after the Wellness Center, where Gilda Radnor went for support during her battle with ovarian cancer. Gilda’s Club was started by her husband and her caretaker after her death. There are now several Gilda’s Clubs throughout the country. Their mission is one of information and support for those living with cancer, cancer survivors, as well as their family and friends.
I have been working with people in various stages of treatment and they are very vocal about the difference that practicing TriYoga has made in their lives. Several have bought DVD’s and are reaping some very substantial benefits from their practice. It is very challenging because of their various physical limitations. The only props we have are the pillows from the sofas there, which are very rounded, versus the bolster-type cushions which we need. I purchased straps, and someone donated mats. If anyone has any yoga bolsters or cushions or blocks that they no longer use, perhaps they would be interested in donating them to Gilda’s Club. These items would remain the property of Gilda’s Club and would only be used there.
The address where the items should be sent is:
Gilda’s Club South Jersey
300 Shore Road
Linwood, NJ 08221
ATT: Barbara Ferrara, Clubhouse Manager
Thank you so much for any help you can give us.
