Chant Club Performs at SYTAR

///Chant Club Performs at SYTAR

Chant Club delivered an electrifying performance at the Symposium of Yoga Therapy and Research (SYTAR) in Newport Beach, California, an annual event organized by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Chant Club’s sunset concert followed a dinner and awards ceremony for SYTAR participants, located outdoors in the Rose Garden at the Newport Marriott Hotel & Spa. The 400 attendees, plus many guests from the hotel, were brought to their feet by the incomparable combination of Yogini Kaliji on vocals and harmonium, Berni Beibl on guitar, and Prasann Salkar on tabla and vocals. As their set ended, the applause continued along with calls from the audience for more music.

Kaliji was very happy to see her long time dear friend, Larry Payne (left), founder of Samata International.

John Kepner, MA, MBA, C-IAYT, (Executive Director) and Dr. Dilip Sarkar, MD, FACS, CAP, C-IAYT (President) give their thanks to Chant Club for the outstanding performance. Both announced they would love to see this trio at every SYTAR.

Kaliji had a beautiful flow with Dr. Sarkar, who heard that there are nearly 500 TY teachers in China and thought to introduce one of the Chinese yoga therapy teachers to Kaliji. They met in the flow as Kaliji was departing the hotel, and discovered that this teacher is a friend of TY teacher Yoli from Dalian, China. Yoli and her husband Yonglu are the organizers of the annual TY conference in Dalian.

Another beautiful flow unfolded with Matra, who is on the IAYT Board of Directors. Matra was a friend of the very first TriYoga teacher in India, Col. Mehta, a very special person and a dear friend of Kaliji and TriYoga. (Read his story on the Remembrance page). Matra also shares friendship with another close friend of Kaliji,  Dr. Jayanti Patel, a renowned Natya Yogi. (Enjoy the movie about Dr. Patel on KRIYA)

Felicia M. Tomasko, editor of LA Yoga Magazine, was happy to see Kaliji after many years. LA Yoga Magazine published a cover article on Kaliji in 2003. It read: “Kali Ray’s story is the stuff of miracles… Everything about Kaliji, including her blonde hair, sunny eyes, and calming presence reflects harmony with her environment, as does TriYoga, the style of yoga she created.”

Special thanks to TriYoga Teacher and director of TY Boston Brahmi, who suggested Chant Club to the conference organizers.  She was at the conference along with TYT Lorrie to present TY Therapeutics.
